Studio Tour 2015

My favorite weekend of the year is coming up!

November 7th and 8th are the dates for the St. Lawrence County Arts Council’s annual Studio Tour.  It is a great opportunity for people to get out and meet artists in their working environment to see how they do what they do and maybe do some holiday gift shopping at the same time.

I still do not have studio space at home that is ready to accept visitors but I will be participating by setting up a studio-away-from-home at the SLC Arts Council site.  You’ll be able to find me (and lots of scarves and beads and other pretty things) in the upstairs dance studio at Downtown Snell Hall, 41 Elm Street in Potsdam.

What will you find if you come to visit me?

Well, as usual, I will have lots of beautiful scarves, including plenty of ice dyed jersey scarves which lots of people are in love with right now.  Some of them will even have gorgeous lace trim at the edges to take them from being an every-day sort of accessory to the height of Bohemian luxury.  If there is someone in you life who has a flair for gypsy fashion and loves to wear colorful accents, one of these scarves would make a wonderful gift!  Each is truly one of a kind since ice dyeing results in totally unique outcomes every time and no one else is making scarves like these.  (yet!)

I will also have beaded jewelry options ranging from simple strung bracelets and earrings to luxury bead woven adornments.

But the really fun stuff is that I will have a small selection of czech glass beads and supplies for you to make your own simple earrings!  I will also have a couple of luxury beadweaving projects in progress so you can see how I work the bead magic.  I hope to also have a short video or slide show of my ice dye process so that you can see how that magic is accomplished.  It’s a pretty slow process but I can film the exciting bits for you to see.

So, I hope to see you at Studio Tour!  I will be on site from 10-4 on Saturday and from around 11-4 on Sunday.  There are5 other artists planning to be at Snell Hall as well so there will be plenty to see and do in Potsdam!   For more information on Studio Tour, participating artists and directions to studios , visit this link on the SLC Arts Council’s website.

That I am working on.  Just now.  This is all I can say about it for the moment. . . . .

Except for the fact that these are really, really hard to photograph.

The Goblins Have Been Busy

Bead encrusted lace sewn to teal leather to make a gorgeous cuff bracelet.

It has been a challenging summer here in the Hollow.  Molly spent most of July and half of August working as  a TA in summer school so I was down a pair of hands in the studio.   But we managed to get stuff done anyway.

The beaded lace bracelet from the beginning of July got finished and also an even more fabulous leather and beaded lace cuff.  I used teal leather and a wonderfully fringed ivory lace to make a cuff bracelet that evokes the glamour and swing of the Roaring 20’s.  The goblins are pleased with both of them – they are so sparkly and decadent!

We drafted a pattern for a Goblin Frock and ice dyed some linen to make a trial run with.  We haven’t gotten around to actually cutting the fabric yet.  It is so pretty just as it is.

Speaking of which, next week I will start listing ice dyed fabric yardage in the Etsy shop.  Individual lengths of fabric will be available until we sew them into Goblin Frocks pr Smocks or Tunics.

This week, I listed 10 new ice and alchemy dyed Hemp Rayon Jersey Scarves in the Etsy shop.  If you see one you like, snap it up soon because the last batch sold out within a week.

The goblins love it when they hear the smart phone go “Cha-Ching!”  It means they can order new fabric to do more ice dyeing!

And here’s a final photo of the patterning on my favorite from the last batch of ice dying we did.  The greens are wonderful here!
