I will be working on Meditation Malas during studio tour and I managed to get a few new ones made last week while most of the household was feeling down with one thing or another.
They take a lot of patient time and attention to get the knotting and count just right. They each have their own individual energy and I want to make sure that I get them right so planning can take some time, too.
But now, this week is for dyeing!
I have tons of new scarves to dye in velvet, devore, satin and chiffon. I also want to dye lots of thread for more mala tassels.
I may also bring this fabulous doodle to work on over the weekend.
I hope to see you there!
In the meantime, Blessed Samhain! May the chilly days of autumn and winter bring you clarity and joy.
November 7th and 8th are the dates for the St. Lawrence County Arts Council’s annual Studio Tour. It is a great opportunity for people to get out and meet artists in their working environment to see how they do what they do and maybe do some holiday gift shopping at the same time.
I still do not have studio space at home that is ready to accept visitors but I will be participating by setting up a studio-away-from-home at the SLC Arts Council site. You’ll be able to find me (and lots of scarves and beads and other pretty things) in the upstairs dance studio at Downtown Snell Hall, 41 Elm Street in Potsdam.
What will you find if you come to visit me?
Well, as usual, I will have lots of beautiful scarves, including plenty of ice dyed jersey scarves which lots of people are in love with right now. Some of them will even have gorgeous lace trim at the edges to take them from being an every-day sort of accessory to the height of Bohemian luxury. If there is someone in you life who has a flair for gypsy fashion and loves to wear colorful accents, one of these scarves would make a wonderful gift! Each is truly one of a kind since ice dyeing results in totally unique outcomes every time and no one else is making scarves like these. (yet!)
I will also have beaded jewelry options ranging from simple strung bracelets and earrings to luxury bead woven adornments.
But the really fun stuff is that I will have a small selection of czech glass beads and supplies for you to make your own simple earrings! I will also have a couple of luxury beadweaving projects in progress so you can see how I work the bead magic. I hope to also have a short video or slide show of my ice dye process so that you can see how that magic is accomplished. It’s a pretty slow process but I can film the exciting bits for you to see.
So, I hope to see you at Studio Tour! I will be on site from 10-4 on Saturday and from around 11-4 on Sunday. There are5 other artists planning to be at Snell Hall as well so there will be plenty to see and do in Potsdam!
